BEAUMONT, Texas — A 29-year-old Beaumont man has been indicted for the fatal shooting of a man at a Beaumont gas station in July.
Jaye Vincent Normand, 29, of Beaumont, has been charged with murder in the shooting death of Cory Beckett, 38, of Beaumont, at the Shell gas station at Texas Highway 105 and Major Dr. in July 2023.
Beaumont Police were sent to the gas station at about 12:30 p.m. on July 29, 2023, according to file stories.
When they arrived, they found Beckett unresponsive in the parking lot, according to a news release from the Beaumont Police Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said at the time they believed an argument between the two men escalated into the fatal shooting.
Normand was captured on surveillance video shooting Beckett at close range before fleeing the scene in a black SUV according to a probable cause affidavit in the case.
He later returned to the scene and told officers he had shot Beckett according to the affidavit.
Jefferson County Justice of the Peace, Pct. 1 Ben Collins Sr. originally set Normand's bond at $1 million but lowered it to $100,000 due to Normand's lack of criminal history.
Normand was also ordered to wear an ankle monitor if he bonds out and must remain in Jefferson County.
