Leroy Harris, 42, is accused of shooting and killing Yates on December 3, 2023 at a home in the 3900 block of Bayou Rd.
Police arrested Harris after a murder warrant was issued by Judge Ben Collins on January 17, 2024.
BPD's Special Assignment Unit located Harris and brought him to the station to speak with investigators, Beaumont Police Department PIO Carol Riley previously told 12News.
On February 14, 2024 BPD indicted Terrance Moore, 17, for the murder of Yates as well.
On December 3, police were sent to a home for a report of shots being fired and found Yates' body when they got there.
Around 9:06 p.m., while officers were still on scene of the homicide, police received a call of two vehicles being abandoned and burned near Concord and Treadway.
Detectives believe the two vehicles were involved in the homicide. One vehicle was a 2018 Kia Optima that had been reported stolen earlier in the day. The second vehicle was a 2001 Chevy Suburban.
It is also believed that the motive for the homicide was robbery.
According to BPD, a witness said that Harris had told the witness that he initially went to the victims house to rob him but ultimately ended up murdering Yates.
Detectives previously asked anyone in the area of the 3900 block of Bayou and Concord and Treadway to check surveillance video on Dec. 3, 2023 between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. around Bayou and between 8:30 p.m. 9:15 p.m. around Concord & Treadway for any footage that could help the investigation.
