Beaumont man indicted for 2014 murder after confession

For years the case went unsolved before Detective L. Thomas reopened it.

PORT ARTHUR, Texas — Last Friday, 47-year-old Damond Lewis walked into the Port Arthur Police station and confessed to the 2014 murder of Eric Noel.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Detective E.S. Thomason and other officers were investigating a call when they suddenly heard multiple shots fired just west of them.

After notifying dispatch, Detective Thomason and the other officers hastily made their way to the area. There they found a man lying in the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The man was later identified as 29-year-old Eric Noel.

Detective Thomason says that Noel was still alive when he got to the scene and he tried asking him questions, but at that point Noel's responses weren't much more than a whisper.

Detective Thomason then rode with Noel in the back of the ambulance hoping to learn more about who his assailant was, unfortunately Noel was unable to communicate any further and later died from his wounds in the hospital.

According to the affidavit, a witness saw Noel involved in a "disturbance" at BJ's convenience store prior to the shooting.

For years the case went unsolved before Detective L. Thomas reopened it.

Not long after, Lewis walked into the station and confessed to everything.

Lewis reiterated details told to police by witnesses and admitted to tracking down Noel and shooting him.

Detective Thomas believes that Lewis was is sound mind and body during the confession.

Lewis was arrested and is currently being held on a $45,000 bond.
