A Beaumont man is in jail after police say he stole a bicycle from a 73-year-old man.

Beaumont Police Department said it happened around 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday May 6.

An officer was flagged down by the victim near Calder Ave and 6 th Street, according to a BPD news release.

The 73-year-old victim gave the police officer a “detailed description” of the man who he said stole the bike. The victim said the bike was stolen at Calder and 10th street.

A witness to the robbery followed the suspect, and later called the police with more information.

Police officers were able to locate the suspect and the victim’s bike near Amgelina and Pecos street.

The man who allegedly stole the bike was identified as 46-year-old Howard lee Mitchell.

Mitchell was taken to the Jefferson County Jail where he was charged with Aggravated Robbery instead of robbery due to the victim’s age, police said.
