BEAUMONT, Texas — A Beaumont man previously sentenced to probation for two robberies is on his way to prison after violating his probation.
Xavier D’Andre James, of Beaumont, who was 22 at the time of the robberies, was sentenced to 10 years on probation for attempting to rob two stores within two hours in September 2021.
James violated the terms of his probation by failing to report to his probation officer, being behind on paying his restitution and not meeting his employment requirements according to court testimony Tuesday.
He appeared before Jefferson County 252nd District Judge Raquel West who revoked his probation and sentenced him to five years in prison for each of the two charges.
James will spend five years in prison as West ordered the sentences to run concurrently.
In 2021 Beaumont Police officers were sent to a robbery call at the Check n' Go located in the 3000 block of Phelan Blvd.
Officers said at the time that James attempted to rob the store by giving a clerk a note that demanded money and said he had a gun, according to a file story.
The clerk refused James’ demands, and customers ran him off and gave police a description of him.
About an hour and a half later, police responded to another robbery call the just over two miles away at the Title Max in the 3000 block of College St.
In that robbery police said James told a Title Max clerk that he had two minutes to give him all his money, or men that were outside would come in and shoot him.
The clerk got James to leave and was able to give police a description of his vehicle.
Police found him less than half an hour later in the 4100 block of E. Lucas and arrested him.
