Beaumont man facing drug, weapons charges following early Tuesday traffic stop

Beaumont Police officers noticed a 2010 Dodge Charger swerve into their lane early Tuesday morning according to a news release.

BEAUMONT, Texas —

A 25-year-old Beaumont man is behind bars after being caught with drugs and weapons during a traffic stop early Tuesday morning in Beaumont.

While on patrol in the 2000 block of Delaware St., Beaumont Police officers noticed a 2010 Dodge Charger swerve into their lane according to a news release from police.

When they tried to pull the car over, the driver kept going for about four blocks before pulling into a driveway in the 1600 block of Glasshouse St.

Officers spoke to the driver, John Keith Mack, 25, of Beaumont, who was alone in the car, then found a handgun in the waistband of his pants and several high capacity magazines in the passenger seat the release said.

They also found an "AR style pistol" and a bag of what officers suspect is crack cocaine on the driver's side floorboard of the car.

Mack was arrested on several charges and taken to the Jefferson County Correctional Facility police said.

He is currently in the jail on a third degree felony charge of possession of between one and four grams of a controlled substance in penalty group 1/1B and misdemeanor charges of unlawfully carrying a weapon, resisting arrest, fleeing a police officer and reckless driving.

His bond has not yet been set.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
