BEAUMONT, Texas — A 27-year-old Beaumont man is in custody following an early Sunday morning shooting at a Port Arthur night club.
Port Arthur Police are investigating a shooting that happened at about 2:30 a.m. at the Opulence Lounge in the 700 block of Proctor St., according to police chief Tim Duriso.
Herbert Carnell Mouton, 27, was arrested in connection with the shooting and charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to a probable cause affidavit in the case. Two people were shot in the leg but were not willing to press charges for aggravated assault according to the affidavit.
Nearly a dozen Port Arthur Police officers were standing outside the club doing crowd and traffic control at the time of the shooting and heard the shots being fired inside the club, according to the affidavit.
Officers immediately went inside and found Mounton being held down by a security guard. The handgun he was allegedly using was found by security guards and given to officers.
Because Mouton has a felony conviction from 2019 for assaulting a family or household member he was arrested and charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm.
He was arraigned on the charges on Monday morning by Jefferson County Criminal Magistrate Marc DeRouen.
Mouton is being held in the Jefferson County Correctional Facility where DeRouen set his bond at $20,000.
This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
