Mother being charged after baby found alive in Southwest Louisiana ditch day after 4-year-old brother found dead

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were sent to the Vinton Welcome Center on July 8 after a body was seen in the water nearby.

LAKE CHARLES, La. — A Lake Charles woman is being charged after detectives found her 4-year-old son dead and her 1-year-old son still alive in a ditch the next day.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies were sent to the Vinton Welcome Center on July 8, 2024, after a body was seen in the water nearby.

While investigating, the CPSO Marine Division located and recovered the body of a young child.

Detectives were eventually able to identify the child as a 4-year-old boy from Lake Charles, who was last seen with his mother, Aaliyah Jack, 25, as well as his 1-year-old brother.

After this development detectives quickly sent out a BOLO (Be on the Lookout) to other law enforcement agencies to try to track down Jack and later issued a warrant for her arrest.

The warrant was signed by Judge Tony Fazzio in the amount of $300,000, charging her with failure to report a missing child.

Jack was eventually found all the way in Mississippi by the Meridian Police Department, without her 1-year-old child. She was immediately taken into custody.

After realizing that the 1-year-old was not with Jack, CPSO went into full overdrive looking for the missing child.

Incredibly, this morning, July 9, at about 9:00 a.m. deputies were sent to a call in reference to a passerby observing a baby in a ditch on I-10 eastbound near mile marker 10, there they found the one-year-old boy still alive.

“This is a tragic incident our detectives are currently investigating,” stated Sheriff Stitch Guillory in a press release. “Fortunately, we were able to locate the 1 year old, who was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. He is now safe and in the care of authorities. We understand the community’s concern and are committed to ensuring justice for the children involved. CPSO detectives are actively working to gather all the information and details surrounding
this case and will dedicate all necessary resources to ensure a thorough investigation. Our hearts go out to the family members of these two children.”

Jack is being charged with two counts of failure to report a missing child, cruelty to a juvenile, and 2nd degree murder.  Judge Fazzio set her total bond at $9.1 million.

The 1-year-old was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
