JEFFERSON COUNTY, Texas — A 53-year old Port Arthur man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to three counts of possession of child pornography.
Scott Robert Claiborne was sentenced by Judge Stevens this morning for child pornography offenses reported on September 24, 2021, involving a small child under three years of age.
Judge Stevens noted that the defendant had no prior criminal history, but made a big mistake and harmed children.
"When asked how you feel about the victims of your crime, do you remember how you answered?" Judge Stevens asked Claiborne. "I never did anything to anybody." [ Judge Stevens reiterated Claiborne's response.]
"Do you know how wrong that answer is?" Judge Stevens asked Claiborne as he stood next to his attorney.
Judge Stevens then sentenced Claiborne according to the restrictions of the plea agreement, giving him eight years, probated for 10 years.
Judge Stevens placed several restrictions on Claiborne including requiring him to complete a sex offender treatment program and forbidding him from having contact with children under 18 without approval of the court.
Claiborne must register as a sex offender and is ordered to stay 1,000 feet away from schools, playgrounds and other places where children gather.
