PORT ARTHUR, Texas — A car and a Port Arthur patrol car collided in the early morning hours.

The accident happened around 1 a.m. at the intersection of Gulfway Drive / TX 87 and Austin Avenue in Port Arthur.

The crash injured four people, Texas DPS Sgt. Stephanie Davis said in a news release.

The Port Arthur Police officer's SUV was stopped at the intersection of TX 87 and Austin Street when a 1997 Pontiac sedan rear-ended the patrol car, Davis said.

Texas DPS identified the officer as 35-year-old Daniel Summers, of Port Arthur. He was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, Davis said.

The driver of the Pontiac, 31-year-old Devon Andre Martin, of Houston and two children inside the car, a 10-year-old and an 11-year-old were taken to St. Elizabeth's hospital with serious injuries.

Texas DPS is still investigating what led to this crash, including alcohol and speed, Davis said.
