BUNA, Texas — Buna ISD went on a "precautionary" partial lockdown Monday morning during a search for a runaway student.
The student had been sighted about 1.5 miles east of the Buna High School campus, superintendent R. Steve Hyden said in a Facebook post on the school district's page.
"No threats have been made," Hyden said. "We are taking every precaution to assure the safety of our students and staff."
Texas DPS and the Jasper County Sheriff's Office were searching the scene for the missing student, Buna ISD said.
Law enforcement has been looking for the student since yesterday after he ran away from his juvenile probation placement, Hyden said.
"He had been in our Disciplinary Alternative Education Program and officers thought he might try to return [to school], which prompted the lockdown," Hyden told 12News.
Hyden said the runaway was seen earlier today about three miles from town but has still not yet been found.
