BRIDGE CITY, Texas — Bridge City Independent School District is hoping to make some big changes in the near future. They're in the preliminary phases of a bond proposal.
Superintendent Todd Lintzen said they're seeing an increase in the student population, and they need more room. Lintzen said they want to make updates and add on to the elementary and intermediate school buildings. They also want to add a career technical building to free up classroom space at the high school.
The biggest proposed change would take place at the middle school. Lintzen said it was built in 1964 and needs an upgrade. They want to tear it down and rebuild a bigger school.
Cindy Leblanc has one granddaughter at the middle school and one at the elementary school. She said the elementary school is in great condition, but the middle school is in desperate need of a makeover.
"I think the middle school just totally needs to be torn down and redone, because it's horrible," said Leblanc.
Leblanc said she'd be in support of the bond if it includes a new middle school.
"It's very much needed, it's old and it needs to be redone completely, just completely demolished, start over again," said Leblanc.
The bond proposal will go in front of a Citizens Advisory Committee on February 5th. That's where they'll decide on the official language of the bond before taking it to the school board. The school board will vote on the 7th.
