Doornbos Park in Nederland is known for the numerous ducks that waddle around the pond. Most people feed them and, now, there are reports of people abusing them.

People say they're seeing kids stomping on duck eggs, stepping on baby ducks, and one duck was seen with a rubber band tightly wrapped around it's leg.

"I think it's terrible. I think that kids who do that are gonna grow up to do more things that aren't just for animals," said Sharron Courville, of Nederland.

Courville walks the park daily with her great-granddaughter. They haven't seen any harm done to the ducks. But, they say they have heard about the abuse online.

So has Burl McIntosh.

"Mommas ought to be whooped if they're out here, or their daddies, if they let 'em do it; and, if it's random kids, they need to have somebody turn them in," said McIntosh.

The city has received several reports of abuse calling it "shenanigans" and city leaders say that they'll do whatever it takes to protect the ducks and the park.

The best advice given to 12News from those in the community is for parents to watch their kids.

"Know where your children are at all times and what they're doing," says Courville.

If a person is caught abusing the ducks, they could be charged with Animal Cruelty.

The city has ordered new signs to place around the park specifically aimed at protecting the ducks.
