HOUSTON — Check your refrigerator, especially for your Super Bowl parties. Eighteen products are being recalled due to a listeria outbreak in cheese, crema and yogurt made by Rizo-Lopez foods, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
That voluntary recall includes H-E-B's Caesar dressing and cotija dressing, as well as Trader Joe's chicken enchiladas verde, southwest salad, cilantro salad dressing and a chopped salad kit.
Two people have died from the outbreak and 26 others have been sickened in 11 states. Two of those sickened are in Texas, according to data from the CDC. The state with the highest number of illnesses is California with eight. Arizona and Colorado have each reported four people affected.
The CDC says those numbers are probably much higher since some people are able to recover without going to the hospital.
Listeria symptoms include fever, flu-like symptoms, headache and stiff neck. If you have the recalled products, throw them away and clean the surfaces they touched.
To check which products are on the recall list, you can check the CDC's page for that information. Here's a link | Here's information on H-E-B's website with details about the recall and here's what Trader Joe's posted about it. The FDA also has information on the recall.
