NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. — The 1964 painting of a now-deceased Port Arthur artist sold this week at a New York City auction for a record-breaking $88,805,000.
Robert Rauschenberg's piece, 'Buffalo II' was auctioned at Christie's in New York City according to Christie's website.
Bidding continued for the piece for less than 11 minutes, and the price rose to more than the 'previous world auction record for the artist' according to Christie's.
The sale of Rauschenberg's piece broke 2015 his record of $18.6 million according to a Facebook post from the Museum of the Gulf Coast.
'Buffalo II' is a 96 x 72 in. oil and silkscreen ink on canvas according to Christie's.

For the eight-foot tall piece, the artist used images from newspapers, magazines and his own photographs that, to him, defined America in the 1960s according to the Museum of the Gulf Coast.
A number of 'Rauschenberg's silkscreen masterpieces and other work' can be found in the museum's second floor Robert Rauschenberg gallery according to the museum's Facebook post.
Rauschenberg handpicked the work to be on display in the museum before his 2008 death according to the post.
