BEAUMONT, Texas — Charis Phelps is a producer at 12News in Beaumont, Tx, specializing in general news.
She joined the 12News team in August 2023.
Phelps was raised in China, Texas, and is a graduate of Hardin-Jefferson High School.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in mass communication with a minor in sports business at Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches in May 2021.
While a student at SFA Phelps worked for the The Pine Log, the school's student newspaper, as a photographer and then as a content creator for the athletics department.
She also did a marketing and broadcasting internship with the Texas Collegiate league's Brazos Valley Bombers on Bryan, Texas in 2020.
After earning her bachelor's degree she worked as the assistant director of communications at Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
Phelps, who has a passion for story telling, then attended graduate school at Full Sail University in Orlando, FL, where she earned a masters degree in film production.
While at Full Sail she directed and produced four short films. Two of them have won multiple awards at film festivals.
Phelps loves to hike, cook and enjoys watching films as much as making them. She's also an Astros fan.
