Entergy sends 100 line workers to Louisiana to help with recovery from Tropical Storm Barry

Crews in position in Beaumont to help with power outages

BEAUMONT, Texas — Tropical Storm Barry is knocking out power to tens of thousands of families across south Louisiana, and crews from Entergy Texas will help restore power once the storm passes.

Entergy Texas tells 12News they have sent 100 line workers to help families in Louisiana.

"We have over the years been the recipient of outside resources from other utility companies to come here and help us during restoration, so whenever we're able, we don't mind helping," said Frank Shannon, Director of Region Customer Service.

And those Entergy crews will be busy. Nearly all businesses in Morgan City were shuttered as Tropical Storm Barry made landfall Saturday. WWL-TV reports that power was out across the entire city Saturday afternoon.

Southeast Texas could see tropical storm wind gusts Saturday evening into Sunday. So Entergy says they will stage some crews in Beaumont as a precaution.

"Our number one priority is our Texas customers, so we have plenty of resources here to address any issues or outages that occur," Shannon told 12News.
