VIDOR, Texas — Vidor firefighters and Vidor Police officers spent much of the night dealing with a burning 18-wheeler loaded with charcoal.

The eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 in Vidor have been closed for hours Tuesday morning after an 18-wheeler carrying charcoal briquettes burned.

Just before 2 a.m. Tuesday morning a 2023 Freightliner truck tractor pulling a semi-trailer, driven by a 36-year-old New York man, was headed east on Interstate 10 when it caught fire, according to a news release from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Troopers do not know at this time why the fire started.

The driver was able to pull over to the shoulder before the truck became engulfed in flames, according to the DPS.

The driver was not injured in the fire, which happened on the interstate at S. Tannahill St.

The eastbound lanes were reopened by 10:30 a.m.
