Southeast Texas athletes travel to Lake Charles for McNeese State's 'Cowboy Up' football camp

LAKE CHARLES — Several Southeast Texas athletes made the trip east on Interstate-10 to Lake Charles, LA for McNeese State University's 'Cowboy Up' football camp on Sunday.

Among those local athletes was incoming junior quarterback Tyrone Wilson from class 4A powerhouse West Orange-Stark High School.

Wilson knows that instruction on footwork in the pocket and arm accuracy from the likes of McNeese co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Kerry Joseph is vital if he plans on helping the Mustangs maintain that number one spot in the Dave Campbell's Texas Football Division II preseason state rankings.

McNeese State head coach Lance Guidry knows how important Golden Triangle athletes are to the Cowboys' camp and program.

"40% of the kids at this camp come from Texas, and that is pretty much the makeup of our football team too," said Guidry. "We've always recruited well in the Golden Triangle area. Texas is very important to our football program."

The three day, two night camp will continue through Tuesday, July 10, 2018.

There is still time to sign up for camp sessions by visiting the Jack V. Doland Fieldhouse, which is connected to Cowboy Stadium in Lake Charles.
