Texas Artists' Museum seeks help in rebuild post Harvey

Now they're asking for the community's help to get the building ready for repair.

PORT ARTHUR — Like a lot of Southeast Texas, the Texas Artists' Museum was forced to close their doors after Harvey left behind devastating damage. Now they're asking for the community's help to get the building ready for repair.

The President of the Board of Directors Mark Nesmith said the museum is one of the few places people can go to practice the arts in Port Arthur.

"It really needs to be here as an outreach for students of all ages, young, old, to keep the arts alive," said Nesmith.

He said the museum has played a role in lots of artists lives since it opened in the 70s.

"You never know who might be in the next class, it might be the next Picasso or Michalangelo and they may be sitting right here," said Nesmith.

He said once the rebuild is complete, they hope to blossom into more music activities, and become a focal point for the arts in Port Arthur.

While they've had quite a few people come through and help out, they won't be able to get their without more volunteers offering a hand. Nesmith said they'll take any help they can get.
