Port Neches students gear up for fall with "Back to School Bash"

Administrators hope the event gets families more involved in their kid's lives.

PORT NECHES — If you stopped by Port Neches Elementary Wednesday, you'd get the impression kids are actually ready for school to start!

Hundreds of fourth and fifth graders toured the campus, met their teachers, and then came outside to play. Administrators hope the "Back to School Bash" gets families more involved in their kid's lives.

"I spoke with my teachers. We kind of collaborated, and said 'what can we do to make these incoming 4th graders feel welcome?' And the Back to School Bash was born," explained new principal Kimberly Carter.

Firefighters, game wardens and deputies from the sheriff's office all came to visit with the students. It was enough to impress the kids. "We've been on the dance floor and bounce house, and petting crocodiles, eating, doing a lot of fun stuff. It was really cool," Nash Rachal said.

PNG starts school Tuesday, August 21.
