More than 200 show up in Port Arthur Tuesday to sign-up for Harvey homeowner assistance

Other locations across Southeast Texas were already open, but Port Arthur did not open until now.

PORT ARTHUR — More than 200 residents affected by Harvey showed up Tuesday in Port Arthur to apply for assistance.

The Texas General Land Office opened up a regional office in Beaumont this week as well as satellite intake centers in Port Arthur, Lumberton, Sour Lake and Orange.

In Port Arthur if there is still a need at the end of the week the office will open again next week.

Port Arthur's first day to sign up for the Homeowner Assistance Program geared towards those affected by Hurricane Harvey was Tuesday.

The regional office in Beaumont opened on Monday with the satellite intake centers opening later in the week.
