Gun Barrel City woman killed in head-on wreck west of Beaumont Saturday night

A 21-year-old Beaumont man was also injured and taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 38-year-old woman is dead after a head on collision in Jefferson County last night.

Shaunna Ruth Wood, of Gun Barrel City, Texas, was killed in the wreck according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

It happened around 10:30 p.m. on Highway 90, two miles west of Beaumont.

From a Texas Department of Public Safety News Release...

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) can confirm that 38-year-old Shaunna Ruth Wood of Gun Barrel City, Texas was the driver of the silver Kia passenger vehicle. Wood was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries, but was later pronounced deceased by medical personnel at the hospital.

Through further investigation, Troopers determined that Wood was traveling westbound in the eastbound traffic lane of US-90 when she collided head-on with the Red Kia passenger vehicle.

This investigation is still ongoing and there are no additional details available at this time.

On August 18, 2018, at approximately 10:30p.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Troopers responded to a multiple vehicle crash on US-90 in Jefferson County. The crash occurred approximately two (2) miles West of Beaumont.

Initial reports indicate that a silver 2012 Kia passenger vehicle was traveling westbound on US-90. A red 2012 Kia passenger vehicle was traveling eastbound on US-90. For an unknown reason, the vehicles collided in the center of the roadway.

The driver of the silver Kia, a 38-year-old female from Gun Barrel City, Texas, was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with serious injuries. Unfortunately, she did not survive her injuries and was pronounced deceased by emergency medical personnel at St. Elizabeth hospital. Her name will not be released until next of kin has been notified.

The driver of the red Kia, 21-year-old Jack Thode of Beaumont, sustained serious injuries and was transported to St. Elizabeth hospital.

The passenger of the red Kia, a 21-year-old female from Beaumont, was also transported to St. Elizabeth hospital with unknown injuries.

All information is preliminary as Troopers continue to investigate this fatal crash.

At this time, there are no additional details to be released.
