Family of shooting victim asks for senseless violence to stop

Coleman was gunned down in front of an apartment building at the Sunlight Manor Apartments. The shooting has left police scrambling to find out who it was that pulled the trigger.

BEAUMONT — Taecia Jones the aunt of 19 year old Gariyon Coleman is left only with memories, as well as his grandmother Joan Bickham.

"When he graduated he told his mama don’t call me po-shame no more, I'm g-lotto now because I feel like I hit the lottery,” Jones said.

Coleman was gunned down in front of an apartment building at the Sunlight Manor Apartments. The shooting has left police scrambling to find out who it was that pulled the trigger.

Jones tells 12news Coleman always brought a smile to their faces.

"He liked to eat, and was real silly. He had a lot friends he was very family oriented, he loved his brothers and sisters," Jones said.

Coleman’s family tells 12news that he had just gotten hired for a job in Midland, Texas and was supposed to leave this Sunday. Now this broken family waits for answers to why Coleman’s life was cut so short.

"Children stop picking up guns, it's not worth it. You’re taking a life senselessly for what? I can't express enough if you all know whose committing all these murders in Beaumont come forward because it hurts," Jones said
