Emergency responders prevent Lumberton restaurant from catching on fire

It was a close call for a Lumberton restaurant this morning after some towels caught on fire early Saturday morning.

Lumberton Fire and Hardin County Emergency Services District 2 responded to the catfish cabin off S. Lhs Drive a little after 1:37 a.m.

When firefighters arrived they found several towels inside of a laundry basket that caught on fire.

Investigators said the towels were taken out of the dryer after the restaurant closed and burst into flames because there was a greasy residue on the towels.

From Lumberton Fire Department and Hardin County ESD :

Lumberton Fire & EMS was dispatched at 0137 to an early morning fire alarm at Catfish Cabin 192 S LHS Drive. Firefighters arrived to find smoke visible inside the structure. Firefighters gained entry into the structure and found a laundry basket containing towels that were on fire. The fire was extinguished without damage to the structure. Investigation determined that the towels were taken out of the dryer after closing. They were folded while still hot and placed inside the laundry basket and then later spontaneously combusted due to the towels containing a greasy residue that was possibly dried to hot. A great example of how a working fire alarm can save a structure from extensive damage or possibly save a life.
