Beaumont Police Department Hold Press Conference Talking about Recent Arrest

The Beaumont Police Department held a press conference today talking about the recent arrest of 9 people wanted for violent crimes in the city.

The Beaumont Police Department held a press conference today talking about the recent arrest of 9 people wanted for violent crimes in the city.

"These people have committed multiple crimes, they've been arrested multiple times. Arrested gotten out and continue to commit violent crimes", said Beaumont Police Officer Haley Morrow.

Among those nine, Desmond Bennett and David Parkerson, who were both charged with shooting and killing Anthony Green at a local car wash last December.

Beaumont Police Chief Jim Singletary says the community plays a huge role in helping them solve many of their cases.

"We definitely appreciate the support we've had from our community so far and we just hope that continues. This is one of the reasons we wanted to let citizens know what we are doing and that we're getting the people off the street", Chief Singletary said.

Chief Singletary says what concerns him most is not how old, but young, many of these suspects are when they are arrested.

The youngest in this group, 15 year olds Corey Spencer Jr, and Johnny Phifer who will be tried as adults in the fatal shooting of pregnant Beaumont mother, Kera Teel.

"It's amazing 15 and 16 year old kids are committing these violent crimes and show no remorse at all and really thats alarming", Singletary said.

He tells 12 News that the department is working to stop the growing trend of teen violence.

"We're going to get them, there are a lot more out there and we're going after them", he said.
