SILSBEE, Texas — A semi caught fire in Silsbee Monday morning after a mechanical failure and caused a power outage for over 400 people nearby.
The Hardin County Sheriff's Office said a call about the 18-wheeler came in at 6:25 a.m. after the brakes on the semi locked up and caught fire near the intersection of FM 1122 and FM 92.
Silsbee Fire Department and the Hardin County Sheriff's office responded to the scene. The roads were reopened as of 8 a.m.
Tonie Lowe said in an Instagram message the power went out in her house and she smelled burning just before taking her children to school Monday morning.
The Hardin County Sheriff's Office said Entergy was notified about the outage, which is related to the accident.
Entergy spokesperson Allie Payne said in an email the 18-wheeler stopped underneath powerlines after it caught fire and burnt the wires.
"Crews are on-site, working to rerouting power and preparing to make repairs," she said.
