Alert resident helps lead Beaumont Police to arrest two men on drug, weapon charges

The resident called police at about 1:20 a.m. Thursday to report two suspicious men in the parking lot of the apartment complex and when officers arrived they spotted them standing near a car.

BEAUMONT — A tip from a Beaumont resident led to the arrest of two men on drug and weapons charges early Thursday morning.

Nicholas Ray Smith, 30, of El Paso and Rolanda Deandre Jackson, 30, of Beaumont, were arrested in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 4600 block of Collier Street according to a news release from the Beaumont Police Department.

Both men were charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon and Smith was charged with possession of a controlled substance the release said.

Police say that when the pair saw the officers they ducked behind the car and "set objects on the ground."

Narcotics detectives and a K-9 unit also responded to the scene and during the investigation officers discovered two handguns according to the release.

"K-9 Gus" assisted in the investigation and after he "alerted" on the car officers discovered more than three kilograms of liquid THC, also referred to as cannabis or marijuana oil, six packages of THC gummies and more than $6,000 in cash the release said.
