'Abducted' 6-year-old Port Arthur girl admits she wandered off, got lost

Detective Hebert said the little girl gave officers information on the vehicle and the occupants, but this information later turned out to be false.

PORT ARTHUR — A little girl who said she was kidnaped Sunday night admitted that she actually wandered from home and was lost.

Police investigated the reported abduction of a 6-year-old girl from Rampart Apartments at 1728 Village East Sunday night at 8:35 p.m., according to Detective Hebert with Port Arthur Police.

At 8:55 p.m. officers got a call from concerned citizens about a child left alone in the 1900 block of Jefferson Drive. Officers found the girl that was missing at that location. She was alert and had no injuries.

Detective Hebert said the little girl gave officers information on a vehicle and its occupants, but this information later turned out to be false.

She was told to watch out for a figure seen around the apartment complex and she got her description of the car and driver from this warning.

Police interviewed a person of interest who was cooperative.

Hebert said the girl actually wandered off while playing outside and became lost. Police were able to track her movements on the security cameras of local businesses.

Garth House has closed the case.
